Toys For Kids Purchasing Complete

You might believe Santa’s sleigh is blue and on wheels after the last two mornings. Needless to say, the countless Toys “R” Us shopping carts filled to the brim time and again will certainly help the Jolly Old Elf this season. Today marked the conclusion of Toys For Kids two-day morning shopping spree at Bellevue’s Toys “R” Us.

This was no small affair. Over $170,000 was raised at the charity’s annual dinner auction. Seventeen different agencies gathered over the two-day span. They purchased more than 6,000 toys for disadvantaged and homeless youth.

Purchasing began at 6:00 am. With coffee in hand, agency personnel and volunteers wound through the aisles and hand-selected toys for the kiddos. For those unsure how the shopping was really accomplished, former Mariners star, Jay Buhner (aka “The Bone”) was more than happy to demonstrate. What’s The Bone’s favorite cart filling move? A large arm sweep, piling an entire shelf of toys into a cart in one go!
The RBI Club has been helping Toys For Kids since 2000. In 2001, we introduced the Al “Moose” Clausen Community Service Award, which is presented at the annual dinner and auction. The award is given to a past or present member of the Mariners organization who has made a significant contribution to the community. This year we were pleased to present the award to Mariners Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jack Zduriencik.
