What are Edgar Martinez’s top three Mariners moments? He said they were, “Going to the All-Star game in 1992, the 1995 series when we beat the Yankees, and 2001 with our 116 wins and making it to the playoffs.”

Wednesday, March 9, the RBI Club was excited to welcome Edgar as our guest speaker for the March 2011 Luncheon. More than 80 people were in attendance. Edgar shared his DH rituals for between at bats. He explained the origin of his work ethic and the secret behind his positive thinking. Wondering what tools he used to practice as a young boy? Try rocks, a broom handle, and baby powder sprinkled across the floor to practice sliding. “My grandma wasn’t very happy about (the baby powder),” Edgar said with a grin.

Our RBI Club Exclusive Luncheon Auction raised $2,700 for the Martinez Foundation. Ty Moore won the “Reunion Baseball,” autographed by Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner, Dan Wilson, Omar Vizquel, Paul Sorrento, Norm Charlton, and Rick Rizzs. Kathy and Dave Hope won two tickets to the Edgar Martinez’s suite for the Edgar Martinez Mariners Game on Sunday, April 10. They will be celebrating Dave’s 70th Birthday. Brian Evison won the final item. It included a bottle of Edgar’s specially imported El Zacatecano tequila and two tickets to a private cocktail party hosted by Edgar and Gene Juarez. If you happen to be at Spring Training, keep your eye out for Edgar. He’ll be down on the 13th to offer the guys hitting pointers.
