“A few years ago when I took this job, one of the things we said we were going to do here was build a foundation. We are in the process of doing that, but it takes time,” said Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik.

Zduriencik joined RBI Club members and guests at our January luncheon to share his insights into what we can expect this year. At the end of last season, he and Eric Wedge sat down with each player and discussed exactly what was expect during the off-season. Recently, Wedge flew in 10 of those players to see how they had progressed. Want an example of their success? At the end of last season, Franklin Gutierrez weighed 180 pounds due to illness. Zuduriencik was happy to report that Gutierrez is now 199 pounds of lean, mean, ready to battle baseball machine. It’s that type of hard work which is building our foundation.

The luncheon also offered two fantastic auction items, an inning with Rick Rizzs in the Dave Niehaus Broadcast Center and an autographed picture of Zuduriencik. $450 was raised for the charitable work of the RBI Club and Toys for Kids.
