Alvin Davis

We’re delighted to announce that our 2015 Al “Moose” Clausen Community Service Award recipient is Mariner Hall of Famer Alvin Davis.

The award will be presented to Alvin November 7, 2015 at the annual Toys for Kids auction.

Each year the award is given to an active or retired member of the Mariners organization who has made a significant contribution to the community. This year, we’re recognizing Alvin’s many contributions in the Seattle area and in his home community, Riverside, California.

Fondly known as “Mr. Mariner,” Alvin served on the Board of Directors of Pro Athletes Outreach and supported the work of the Union Gospel Mission, Emerald City Outreach Ministries and Antioch Bible Church during his years in Seattle. He visited communities throughout the Northwest on the annual Mariners Caravan, and although he admits he’s not much of a golfer, he participated in the Mariners annual Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament.

Since his retirement from baseball, Alvin remained connected to the game as a coach at two high schools in his hometown of Riverside, California. About that time he says, “It was a tremendous joy to help shape the character and sharpen the baseball skills of young men during those years.” He participates in local youth baseball clinics and is a member of the Riverside Sport Hall of Fame.

Alvin has served as an elder of the Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church since 1997 where he oversees the church’s finances and leads a group that provides “biblical counsel and discipleship” to families. Alvin’s wife, Kim, is also active in the church as co-leader of the women’s ministry.

About the Award

The RBI Community Service Award is named for Al “Moose” Clausen. Moose is a Seattle born and raised baseball fanatic. During his years at Ballard High School, his baseball coaches nicknamed him “Moose.” The name stuck, and he has been fondly called Moose ever since.

In 1982, Moose joined the Mariners Front Office as Director of Sales and was part of the Mariners family until he retired in 2012. Due to his decades of service with Northwest baseball and the community, we named our Community Service Award for Moose in 2001.
